Wellesley High School's TV/Video Classes

Introduction to TV/Video Production: In the intro course students are taught proper video techniques using the digital camcorder with tripod and microphone. After learning to videotape, they learn to edit their videos on the computer. No prior experience is necessary. In the second term of the course, students experiment with many different roles in the production process from director to talent, learn to use equipment in the control room and studio, and produce their own show for possible broadcast on cable television. Students are also required to attend and film one school committee meeting during the semester.

Intermediate TV/Video Production: This course deals with advanced features of TV/video production, video integration and camera techniques. Continuing to practice the basics of good composition, lighting and audio, students tape their own short original videos that they import into the computer and edit using Final Cut Pro. Students learn advanced editing techniques of Final Cut Pro, learn and work with advanced features of studio production, and have initial exposure to field production for use in the WHS News program. Student will produce and direct the biweekly Principal Update show.

Advanced TV/Video Production: Students in the advanced course are independent workers, self-motivated, and committed to their studies of TV and video production. Students in this course are expected to produce WHS News and Principal Update show. Students who have demonstrated high performance in TV/Video Production can pursue individual projects while assisting teachers in the instruction of beginning students. Students will master sophisticated Final Cut Pro editing techniques and will produce independent video projects both in and out of the TV Studio.
